Category: Education

PQA has organized a panel session for the 2021 ACMQ’s virtual Healthcare Equity Summit titled "The Value of Physician-Pharmacist Collaborations to Improve Quality and Equity." The summit is October 1-2 and this session takes place Saturday, October 2, from 11:05 a.m.-12:00 p.m. ET. It features:

  • Micah Cost, PharmD, MS, Chief Executive Officer, Pharmacy Quality Alliance
  • Melanie Jones, PharmD, Associate Vice President, Pharmacy Clinical Programs, Humana
  • David Nash, MD, MBA, Founding Dean Emeritus, Jefferson College of Population Health.

Pharmacist-provided care, including medication therapy management, helps improve patient experiences, care and outcomes, and addresses gaps in care. It can positively impact performance on quality measures across healthcare, including physician measures. This is why embedding pharmacists within the physician practice and fully utilizing pharmacists’ expertise through collaborative practice agreements are among the most feasible and impactful models of team-based care.

Micah Cost, PQA CEO, will moderate this panel which will discuss the state of medication use quality improvement in health care. They will speak to the value of physician-pharmacist collaborations in team-based care and the role of pharmacy and medication services in addressing health disparities. The panel will also provide examples and opportunities for implementing or expanding physician-pharmacist collaborations.
