The Voice of the Patient in Medication Therapy Management

Patient experience with care continues to be an emphasis in quality measurement, and the patient voice within a medication therapy management (MTM) program is no different. How do you assess something as diverse as individual perception of value within an MTM program? This month’s PQA Quality Forum webinar panel will share real-world experience so attendees can consider how to evaluate the patient experience in MTM.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) continue to emphasize patient experience within Medicare plans and is increasing weight of patient experience measures with 2021 Star Ratings. As we consider approaches to measure quality within an MTM program, patient experience should score high for consideration. With this panel, we will look at the MTM experience from the patient perspective and share methods used by health plans to measure how patients feel about the MTM services they receive. Panelists from a health plan and MTM vendor will share how they design and activate patient surveys and leverage patients’ feedback to improve program design. Attendees will also hear from an MTM provider who will discuss how community pharmacists facilitate positive patient experiences by integrating personalized MTM services into pharmacy workflow. Lastly, a patient will describe his experience with MTM services and the impact the relationship with his pharmacist has made on the management of his chronic disease. Through this discussion of real-world experiences and analysis, attendees can consider patient experience as a dimension of value in MTM.
