As the summer winds down, we are quickly approaching the end of 2022. PQA has been busy this year, in collaboration with our members, advancing the quality of medication use through measure development and stewardship, education, research and convening.
While several months remain in the year, we already have a lot to celebrate. The 2022 PQA Headlines and Highlights elevates these celebrations. Our stakeholders, new and longstanding alike, have worked alongside us to have positive contributions across PQA’s roles in 2022.
As a measure developer and steward, PQA’s focus has been twofold: continuing development and stewardship of impactful and useful health plan measures, and innovation in pharmacy measurement. PQA and its stakeholders have collaborated on:
- Continuing development of a health plan PDC composite measure;
- Progressing value-based care pilots for pharmacy and health plan partners; and
- Summarizing CMS updates related to PQA’s work.
- Publishing the first edition of the PQA Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) Resource Guide;
- Offering a 3-hour certificate course in HIV Medication Use Quality; and
- Delivering a live edition of the PQA Medication Use Quality Continuing Education program.
Our research team has continued to develop and shape its portfolio of projects around its three objectives: informing and evaluating quality measurement, exploring and promoting novel solutions and closing gaps in medication use quality. This work includes:
- Collaborating with the Patient Advocate Foundation to identify improvements needed for SDOH screening and interventions in community pharmacies;
- Addressing the relevance and impact of medication adherence measures; and
- Filling knowledge gaps on the existing landscape of SDOH and the role of pharmacies and pharmacists.
PQA’s role as a convener is back in full force this year with the return of in-person events. PQA members came together to contribute to:
While the first nine months of 2022 have greatly progressed PQA’s efforts, PQA’s work is not done for the year. Upcoming opportunities for stakeholders include:
- Technical Expert Panel (TEP) for a COPD treatment ratio measure;
- PQA Convenes: Developing and Implementing Pharmacy Performance Measures;
- 2022 PQA Leadership Summit, November 9-10 in Arlington, Va.;
- Anticipated comment period and endorsement vote in late 2022; and
- Upcoming Quality Forum webinars and Stakeholder Advisory Meetings.
As PQA rounds out the launch year of Blueprint PQA 2025, 2022 served as the springboard for PQA and its stakeholders to have a positive impact on the four goals identified in the plan. We look forward to the collaborations ahead as we celebrate the achievements of 2022.
