Take Advantage of PQA's Programs for Academic Members

Our nation’s universities and academic institutions educate and train the healthcare quality workforce. More than 40 colleges and schools of pharmacy are PQA members and they are important partners in our work to advance medication use quality, especially in education.

I want to highlight three important opportunities for our academic members to be engaged with PQA and take advantage of our member benefits as the 2020-21 academic year gets underway.

You can read all about it below and today, Wednesday, August 19, I am hosting a webinar for faculty members from 5:00-5:30 p.m. ET to discuss these opportunities. The webinar will be recorded and available following the event. Registration is not needed. Just click this link to attend.

Here’s what faculty members will learn about – and can ask questions about – in today’s webinar:

The PQA Healthcare Quality Innovation Challenge (HQIC).

It’s an annual national collegiate competition where student teams present technology-enabled solutions to improve healthcare quality.

With the support of a faculty or pharmacy professional mentor, participating student teams develop a business summary proposal for their solution to one of three prompts provided by PQA. The prompts for the 2020-21 academic year are focused on pandemics, mental health and the social determinants of health. PQA’s HQIC Competition Details document provides information on the program, including details on the prompts. Student submissions for this year’s competition are due January 15, 2021.

PQA's Medication Use Quality certificate program.

It will help prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals to lead quality improvement programs throughout our care system.

The program provides in-depth training on quality measurement and application in healthcare through the lens of safe and appropriate medication use. A multi-disciplinary program, it could help fill co-curricular outcomes, especially in the area of entrepreneurship. Faculty can participate in the program for $150 and earn 15 hours of CE. A special $99 discount rate for students is available; and, if the course is purchased for an entire cohort, the rate is reduced to $50 per certificate. This is a great way for students to learn about healthcare quality, and it can set them apart in a competitive market. Additional information can be found here.

The PQA Annual Healthcare Quality Lecture.

Presented by our executive fellow to a class of your choice, this lecture explains PQA's strategic work and the healthcare quality landscape.

The lecture explains PQA's strategic work in medication use quality and the broader healthcare quality landscape. The lecture is pre-recorded, can be shared upon request for students to watch and can be incorporated into a course of the institution’s choosing. A live 1-hour lecture also is offered, which includes a guided active learning component, allowing students to practice developing a simple quality measure to highlight the challenge and utility of quality measures.
