PQA Establishes an Executive Research Advisory Council

Council Will Advise on the Focus of PQA’s Growing Research Portfolio

Alexandria, Va. (May 15, 2019) – The Pharmacy Quality Alliance (PQA) has established an Executive Research Advisory Council (ERAC), which will advise the organization on the focus of its growing research portfolio.

“As PQA continues to expand its research portfolio, this council will advise us on innovative and needed research, demonstration projects, and pilot initiatives that align with our mission and organizational strategy,” said Matthew Pickering, PharmD, PQA’s Senior Director of Research and Quality Strategies. “Their collective and individual expertise will help us identify where PQA-led research can advance the value of quality measurement and the role of the pharmacist in value-based care.”

The ERAC initially will be composed of eight individuals, including:

  • Samantha Dougherty, PhD, PhRMA
  • Brian Jensen, RPh, Community Pharmacy Foundation
  • Michael Johnsrud, PhD, University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy
  • Mary Ann Kliethermes, PharmD, Chicago College of Pharmacy, Midwestern University
  • David Nash, MD, MBA, Jefferson College of Population Health, Jefferson University
  • William Shrank, MD, MSHS, Humana
  • Christie Teigland, PhD, Avalere Health
  • Troy Trygstad, PharmD, MBA, PhD, CPESN USA

The ERAC is holding its second meeting today at the PQA Annual Meeting and its first meeting with PQA’s Research Coordinating Committee, which provides insight for and assistance with PQA-led research. Together, the two groups will strengthen PQA’s research at all levels.

The ERAC also will help to promote PQA research and advise on dissemination strategies. The council will meet three times per year and serve a two-year term.
