Outcomes®: Bridging Payers and Pharmacies to Drive Better Care and Lower Costs
This guest blog is one in a series by sponsors of the 2025 PQA Annual Meeting on bridging payers and pharmacies to drive better care and lower costs. PQA does not endorse, recommend or favor any product, service or organization that is a sponsor.
Outcomes® stands at the intersection of pharmacy and payer strategy, empowering HEDIS and Star measure improvement, elevating the member experience, and reducing the total cost of care. Through a suite of innovative tools and pharmacy-centric solutions, Outcomes helps pharmacies optimize business operations while supporting sustainable growth.
A recent Outcomes survey of over 500 U.S. consumers highlighted the central role pharmacies play in patients’ healthcare journeys — revealing high levels of trust, loyalty, and a strong preference for personalized care in brick-and-mortar settings.
Key Findings from the Outcomes Consumer Survey:
- High Trust in Pharmacists: Over 95% of consumers are comfortable receiving medication and vaccine-related communications from pharmacists. More than 80% report a moderately high or very high level of trust in their pharmacy team.
- Deep Loyalty: On average, patients have relied on their current pharmacy for 6.5 years — longer than their current primary care provider (5.8 years).
- Consumers value personal connection: Four out of five patients chose in-person pharmacy visits over mail-order, highlighting the continued importance of face-to-face care.
The survey also identified high demand for expanded clinical services at pharmacies — a promising opportunity for both payers and providers to engage patients more meaningfully. Among the top services consumers had received or were open to receiving:
- COVID-19 testing (92%)
- Blood pressure screenings (91%)
- Vaccinations (88%)
- Personalized medication reviews (85%)
- Smoking cessation (76%)
