Integrating Pharmacists Services into Health Plan Benefits

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) released a new set of recommendations to help integrate pharmacists' clinical services into health plan medical benefits. The guidance lays out 11 key strategies to support collaboration between pharmacists and health plans. "These recommendations serve as a road map for health plans and pharmacists to collaborate on building sustainable models that recognize the value pharmacists bring to the health care system."

Transforming Medication Adherence Strategies
A new article from AdhereHealth's Kempton Presley details best practices that can help Medicare Advantage plans improve their Star Ratings performance while allowing for strategies for medication adherence to grow. Personalized engagement, behavioral science-based techniques, and intelligent data-driven strategies are now essential for addressing the real-world challenges that stand in the way of adherence.

Expanding Services Critical for Independent Pharmacies
Douglas Hoey, CEO of the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), discussed what pharmacies can do to increase revenue and avoid shutting their doors, as well as the importance of independent pharmacies in the health care landscape. Expanding into niche services is a strategy many pharmacies are finding success with. Introducing clinical services—such as compounding, immunizations, and mobile vaccine outreach—are also giving a financial lifeline to some pharmacies.
