Five for Friday August 9: Celebrating Success in Advancing Medication Use Quality
PQA has received a 2024 Power of Associations Gold Award from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) for the PQA Diverse Quality Leaders Program. The program helps individuals at various career stages become leaders in health care quality focused on safe, effective and appropriate medication use.
As an alliance of quality-focused organizations, PQA remains committed to championing health equity and diversity, equity and inclusion as one of four goals in our strategic plan, Blueprint PQA 2025.
Our unique position within the industry enables our success in engaging individuals and organizations to develop a more diverse quality workforce, and we are grateful for ASAE’s recognition of this very important and impactful program.
We also highlight our members' perspectives on pharmacist-provided care, primary care for seniors and specialty pharmacy. If you have news you'd like for us to spotlight in an upcoming Five For Friday, send us an email!

EnlivenHealth has partnered with Good Neighbor Pharmacy for a first-of-a-kind Scope of Practice and Reimbursement Snapshot solution for members. This resource is designed to empower independent pharmacies by providing information on clinical services and reimbursement information tailored to each state. By utilizing the scope of practice feature, pharmacists can access up-to-date information regarding the clinical services they can provide in their state.
Expanding Senior-Focused Primary Care
Walmart and Humana Inc.'s CenterWell will partner to offer senior-focused primary care to communities in four states. CenterWell will lease clinical space in 23 Walmart stores to open centers that will operate under the CenterWell Senior Primary Care and will provide seniors in these communities with greater access to primary care services designed specifically for older adults.
Highlighting Growth in Specialty Pharmacy
Prime Therapeutics' Marci Chodroff addressed the exponential growth in specialty pharmacy, particularly in oncology, neurology, gastroenterology and rheumatology specialty drugs. Nearly one-third of their members are covered under a specialty solution. Specialty growth is outpacing traditional growth at more than 50% share of total pharmacy spend, and the total spend in 2022 was $605 billion.
