PQA Launches Updated Medication Use Quality Continuing Education Program

Alexandria, Va. (June 1, 2023) – Safe, appropriate use of medication is an essential part of high-quality care that improves patient outcomes and health care affordability. To help health care professionals achieve the goal of quality medication use, the Pharmacy Quality Alliance (PQA) is launching an updated Medication Use Quality continuing education program.

Three courses, “Healthcare Quality Foundations,” “Measurement Program Foundations” and “Measuring Quality to Improve HIV Care,” are available in the PQA Education Center starting today. More courses will be released through September 2023. The full program will have a total of nine courses, each accredited for 2 to 3 contact hours for pharmacists. Learners will have increased flexibility to take the courses that are most relevant to them or earn the entire Medication Use Quality Certificate, which will be available later this summer.

“PQA remains committed to delivering best-in-class educational programs which support improvement in the quality of medication-related care by pharmacists and other health care providers,” PQA Chief Executive Officer Micah Cost, PharmD, MS, CAE, said. “We are excited to announce the release of this updated Medication Use Quality continuing education program specifically developed to meet the needs of the current and future landscape of quality improvement and medication use.”

The program features a core curriculum, elective tracks and practice-based learning. The updated program addresses and expands on top issues that will shape quality for years to come, including value-based care, measurement science, social determinants of health, Medicare, Medicaid and innovations in pharmacist-provided care. Participants will gain valuable insights and strategies for delivering better results.

“We’ve made significant updates across the entire program, which will roll out through the summer,” PQA Education Director Amanda Ryan, PharmD, BCGP, CPHQ, said. “We intentionally sought out faculty with expertise in the program’s topic areas, which now features over 25 experts across quality.”

These courses are available online through the PQA Education Center and cost between $59 and $79. PQA members receive a 50% discount. Visit PQA’s website for details and to access the program.

Information on the member discounts can be found in the Member Resources Library. For additional information, group purchasing opportunities or questions on the program, contact PQA's education team at [email protected].
