Five for Friday October 10: Celebrating Success in Advancing Medication Use Quality
Welcome to Five For Friday!
As a valued PQA member, your organization's voice is essential at the 2025 PQA Leadership Summit, November 13-14 in Arlington, Va. Your insights will help shape Blueprint PQA 2030, our next strategic plan, which will guide PQA's work from 2026 to 2030. There is still time to make your plans to join us!
Attendance at the summit is an exclusive benefit of PQA membership, and there is no registration fee. Your participation ensures your organization's priorities are represented as we shape the future of quality medication use. Learn more about the goals and summit below.
We also highlight our members' perspectives on artificial intelligence, specialty pharmacy and nonadherence. If you have news you'd like for us to spotlight in an upcoming Five For Friday, send us an email!
-- Richard Schmitz, PQA Chief Engagement Officer
The National Quality Forum seeks public comment on a draft of its upcoming report on the use of artificial intelligence methods in health care quality measurement. The report includes guidance and recommendations for developing, selecting, and implementing AI-enabled quality measures in accountability programs, including value-based payment, public reporting, performance-based provider network designs, and accreditation.
Advancing Specialty Pharmacy Quality
A Vanderbilt University Medical Center Pharmacy study convened stakeholders to prioritize meaningful and usable measures for managing rheumatoid arthritis patients on specialty therapies, while another broad effort across health-system specialty pharmacies focused on defining the key attributes that distinguish specialty medications.
Addressing Medication Nonadherence
Pharmacists are well-positioned as providers best capable of correcting nonadherent patients. Often, patients aren't fully aware of what the medications can do, what the potential side effects are," said PerformRx's Andrew Maiorini. "They're not certain of what the benefits to taking the medication could be. Then, there's also cost issues as well as access to care." All of these things contribute to nonadherence.
Collaborate with Health Care and Quality Leaders at the 2025 PQA Leadership Summit
Join us at the 2025 PQA Leadership Summit for two days of collaboration, discussion and strategic thinking with health care and quality leaders.
Goal 1: Deliver innovative solutions to advance quality medication use for a person-centered and value-based health care system.
Goal 2: Advance the quality of medication management services to improve patient outcomes through pharmacist-provided and team-based care.
Goal 3: Achieve organizational excellence through structure, processes and technology that deliver exceptional value to members, stakeholders and staff.
During dynamic breakout sessions, you'll collaborate with peers to address key questions:
- Specifically, what should PQA do to implement the goals and their objectives?
- Who would be effective partners and what resources will be needed to implement the goals and achieve their objectives?
- What milestones or incremental steps can be used to evaluate progress toward accomplishing the goals?
Please reach out to your organization's Key Contact, who has received the registration information for both the summit and pre-meeting convening event. Please direct any questions to [email protected].
