Five for Friday September 12: Celebrating Success in Advancing Medication Use Quality

Welcome to Five For Friday!

PQA has published the 2025 PQA Annual Report, which documents progress towards our strategic plan, Blueprint PQA 2025, from September 2024 to August 2025. Alongside our members and stakeholders, our team continues to advance a series of important, enduring and mutually supporting goals.

The accomplishments detailed in this report would not be possible without your collaboration with PQA and our multi-stakeholder member organizations. There are still numerous opportunities to be involved with PQA and impact quality medication use in 2025. Learn more below.

We also highlight our members' perspectives on sustainable pharmacy services, health literacy and advancing the pharmacy profession. If you have news you'd like for us to spotlight in an upcoming Five For Friday, send us an email!

Expanding Sustainable Pharmacy Services

Thrifty White's Jeremy Faulks explains that "on the clinical care side, we have been very focused on training, equipping, and identifying ways for our pharmacists to provide more of these services. It definitely creates a better work environment for our teams. It enables them to perform more direct patient care activities. We also support our teams through technology and central fill, ensuring they have time for these items.” Leaders from CencoraCVS Health and NACDS share additional insights.

Leveraging Health Literacy to Improve Equity
The University of Maryland School of Pharmacy's Amy Howard shares insights on how pharmacists can improve patient outcomes through health literacy. Pharmacists are uniquely positioned to simplify information, check for understanding, and empower patients to take ownership of their health.

Bridging Gaps Between Providers
NCPDP has enhanced its mission to develop standards that enable an opportunity to cross health care systems by building consensus. This includes building clinical technology and workflow gaps between providers—including you as pharmacists, patients, and payers—that aim to innovate and support volunteer models to enhance the role of pharmacists as a member of the care team.

Celebrating Our 2025 Accomplishments

PQA is in the final year of Blueprint PQA 2025, our five-year strategic plan. With just four months remaining in the year, we are excited to share with you our progress in pursuit of quality medication use. The 2025 PQA Annual Report details PQA's work in collaboration with its members and stakeholders.

Together, we are innovating and expanding capacity to enable quality medication use in a digital, value-based health system. But there are still more opportunities ahead to further our blueprint.

Upcoming opportunities include:

We are looking forward to 2026, in which we will celebrate PQA’s 20th anniversary. Meanwhile, our work on the current blueprint continues as we plan for the next five years and Blueprint PQA 2030. Not sure how to get involved? Reach out to us at [email protected] for assistance!
