Five For Friday, April 30: Celebrating Success in Advancing Medication Use Quality

Welcome to Five For Friday. We are less two weeks away from the 2021 PQA Annual Meeting, May 11-13. Today, April 30, is the last day to receive the discount registration rate.

The meeting kicks off with a Town Hall hosted by CEO Micah Cost. He'll share insights from his first 100 days leading PQA, share his vision for the future and take your questions and comments.

He also will host a fireside chat with former CMS Administrator Mark McClellan and former CMS Senior Advisor Larry Kocot on PQA’s establishment 15 years ago, the vision for pharmacy quality and the road ahead. For a preview of that chat, see the commentary Micah and I had in Morning Consult this week.

This week, we are sharing three ways our members are improving quality through addressing disparitiesvalue-based care programs, and SDOH outreach.

-- Richard Schmitz, PQA Senior Director of Communications

Addressing Disparities through Benefit Design
AMCP convened a virtual multidisciplinary stakeholder forum to identify potential structural issues within the current formulary and benefit design processes that can lead to racial health disparities or inequities—and propose viable solutions to reduce these disparities. An executive summary of the forum has been released that outlines the foundational principles, priority areas and interventions identified by participants.

Encouraging Partners in Quality
Health Partnerspay for performance program, Partners in Quality, aims to drive improvements in healthcare quality within care delivery systems and maximize participation of all providers over time. For its Partners in Excellence program, Health Partners has published a series of manuals that provide an overview, targets and methodologies for its partner groups, including those working in community pharmacy and medication therapy management.

Providing MS Patients SDOH Support
AllianceRx Walgreens Prime and Highmark Inc. have joined forces to launch a social determinants of health (SDOH) pilot outreach program. The pilot will kick off with Highmark insurance members who have a multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis and use AllianceRx Walgreens Prime as their specialty pharmacy. The program will identify MS patients impacted by SDOH so referrals can be offered to social work, behavioral health or other appropriate resources.

Town Hall will Explore 15 Years of PQA and What's Next
PQA was introduced 15 years ago on April 24, 2006, with a vision declaring the direct influence of medication optimization on value-based care. The Annual Meeting kicks off with a Town Hall that explores PQA's origins, where we are today and what's next. CEO Micah Cost will share his vision and engage former CMS Administrator Mark McClellan and former CMS Senior Advisor Larry Kocot in a fireside chat. Join us to share your perspectives and ask questions.
